Q: What are the benefits of becoming a PIDIM Student Member?
A: Student Membership is a great way to get involved with Manitoba’s interior design community while you are still in school. Membership can provide opportunities to:
- Learn more about the profession and the path toward becoming a Professional Interior Designer
- Connect with interior designers and industry professionals
- Attend PIDIM events and networking opportunities
- Participate in professional development opportunities
- Learn about industry news, events, and opportunities
- Become familiar with PIDIM and the role it plays in the interior design profession in Manitoba
Student Membership is also a great way to start building connections within the design community before you graduate.
Q: I am currently enrolled in the Master of Interior Design program at the University of Manitoba. Can I become a Student Member of PIDIM?
A: Yes! Students enrolled in the Master of Interior Design program at the University of Manitoba are eligible to become Student Members of PIDIM. The Master of Interior Design program is a CIDA-accredited degree program and is currently the only in-person CIDA-accredited interior design program offered in Manitoba.

Q: I am a student in the Bachelor of Environmental Design program at the University of Manitoba. Can I become a Student Member of PIDIM?
A: Yes! To become a Student Member of PIDIM, you must be enrolled in a post-secondary program related to the practice of Interior Design. Your program does not need to be CIDA-accredited to qualify for Student Membership.
However, if you plan to pursue Intern or Professional Membership with PIDIM after graduation, there are additional education requirements, including graduation from a CIDA-accredited program.
Q: What does CIDA mean?
A: CIDA stands for the Council for Interior Design Accreditation. CIDA is a non-profit organization that accredits interior design education programs and establishes educational standards for professional-level interior design programs across North America.

Q: Do I need a CIDA-accredited degree to become an Intern or Professional Member of PIDIM?
A: Yes. Graduation from a CIDA-accredited interior design program is one of the education requirements for Intern and Professional Membership with PIDIM.
If you are currently studying in a non-CIDA program and are interested in pursuing Professional Interior Design, we encourage you to contact PIDIM to discuss your options and the education requirements that may apply to you.
Q: Are there other CIDA-accredited programs that I can take in Manitoba?
A: Yes. If you are interested in a remote CIDA-accredited degree, you can explore the online Interior Design degree program offered by Yorkville University. You can find more information about this and other CIDA-accredited programs through the CIDA website.
Q: What happens after I graduate from my Interior Design program?
A: If you have graduated from a CIDA-accredited program and meet the applicable requirements, your next step may be to apply for Intern Membership with PIDIM.
Intern Members can begin working toward the experience and examination requirements needed to eventually become a Professional Interior Designer.
We recommend contacting PIDIM before or after graduation to learn more about the next steps in your individual path.
Q: What is the difference between a Student Member and an Intern Member?
A: Student Membership is for individuals currently enrolled in a post-secondary program related to Interior Design.
Intern Membership is for individuals who have completed the required education and are working toward meeting the requirements to become a Professional Interior Designer.
Q: Can students volunteer with PIDIM?
A: Yes! PIDIM offers opportunities for members to get involved and support the organization. Keep an eye on PIDIM communications for upcoming volunteer opportunities, events, and initiatives.
Q: Is there a fee to become a Student Member of PIDIM?
A: Yes. Student Membership is $25.00 per year, plus GST. Depending on when you join during the membership year, your fee may be prorated.
Memberships are billed annually in January for the upcoming year.
