What is the PIDIM Mentorship Program???
The Intern Mentorship Program is designed to help Interior Design Interns grow with confidence as they work toward completing the experience hours required for professional examination. While Interns gain hands-on learning under the supervision of a Professional or Registered Interior Designer, the Mentorship Program adds an extra layer of support—providing independent, career-focused guidance to help them thrive.
A Mentor is a Professional or Registered Interior Designer, or even a retired/non-practicing PIDIM member, who is passionate about supporting the next generation of designers. Because they are not tied to the Intern’s workplace, Mentors offer a fresh, unbiased perspective. Together, Mentor and Intern can explore career goals, workplace dynamics, communication strategies, networking opportunities, and ways to strengthen professional skills. This trusted relationship gives Interns a safe space to ask questions, tackle challenges, and develop a vision for their future in the industry.
To recognize the value of this collaboration, both Mentors and Interns can earn Professional Development credits through the PIDIM Professional Development Program (IDCEC 290)—up to six hours per cycle. Each one-hour meeting can be logged on the IDCEC website using the Mentorship Meeting Record template. It’s a win-win: Interns receive guidance that accelerates their growth, and Mentors contribute to shaping the future of the profession.
